Dr. Julius S. Scott, Jr., an educator, clergyman, sociologist, and educational consultant was born in Houston, Texas in 1925. His father was a Methodist minister and a college president. His mother was a school teacher. He received his undergraduate degree from Wiley College (1945), and master's degree and a PhD degree from Brown University and Boston University; a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and a recipient of 14 honorary degrees. Scott served as the tenth and twelfth president of Paine College (1975 to 1982) and (1988-1994), interim President for the Medical College of Georgia, Albany State University and Philander Smith College. In 1966, he returned to his alma mater (Wiley College) to become the fourteenth President and Chief Executive Officer of the Institution.
